The situation for people with MS in Italy is relatively good by European standards.
The public health care system is highly ranked and social policies respond to the needs of the disabled. There are 200 MS clinics guaranteeing access to treatment and therapy: 65% of people with MS receive disease-modifying therapy. The economic crisis, however, is reversing this trend. Italy also lacks long-term rehabilitation and the absence of ramps limits access to many buildings.
People with MS have a legal right to keep working after diagnosis and to request flexible working conditions: 50% work full time and 10% part time.
Employers receive incentives to recruit people with MS. There is a pension and paid leave for them and their caretakers.
