Cholera in Haiti

In October 2010, an epidemic cholera strain had been confirmed in Haiti, causing the first cholera outbreak in Haiti in at least 100 years.

Cholera is a potentially fatal bacterial infection that causes severe diarrhea and dehydration.

Health officials said at least 2,400 people had died and more than 100,000 others were infected since the first case was detected.

Haiti is dealing with the cholera epidemic as it struggles to recover from the Jan. 12, 2010 earthquake that killed more than 200,000 people and left one million others homeless.
